Summer Favorites: Low Country Boil

Thu, August 1, 2019

A regional icon, the blue crab is indicative of two things: summer days at the beach and a family-style cookout! After the debut of the Blue Crab Attachment, we felt inspired to host our very own cookout in the form of a low country boil featuring fresh seafood – blue crab included, of course! Simple to prepare and fun to eat, this summer classic is a tasty way to bring the whole family together.

Delicious but messy, you'll want to be prepared for this festive feast! Besides Platters for serving, Dipping Bowls for butter {yum!}, and a colorful Tray for side items, you'll want to complete your spread with newspaper for easy cleanup, crab claw crackers, hot sauce, cold beer, and LOTS of napkins. Finish it all off with a sweet dessert {we love key lime pie for this meal!} to leave your guests extra happy!

So gather your friends and family, grab your trusty stockpot, a favorite Happy Everything!™ platter {complete with our new Blue Crab Attachment!} and enjoy a classic low country boil.

Ready to get crackin'? Follow this step-by-step recipe {courtesy of Taste of Home} for a guaranteed family favorite feast.

{P.S. Share pictures from your own cookouts with us using #myhappyeverything. We can't wait to see these {happy} moments!}

Low Country Boil

  • 2 quarts water
  • 1 bottle (12 ounces) beer
  • 2 tablespoons seafood seasoning
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 4 medium red potatoes, cut into wedges
  • 1 medium sweet onion, cut into wedges
  • 4 medium ears sweet corn, cut in half
  • 1/3 pound smoked chorizo or kielbasa, cut into 1-inch slices
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 6 large garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon minced fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pound uncooked large shrimp, deveined
  • 1 pound uncooked snow crab legs
  • Optional condiments: seafood cocktail sauce, lemon wedges, and melted butter

  1. Grab your trusty stockpot and put the water, beer, seafood seasoning, and salt inside. Then, add potatoes and onion. Bring it all to a boil. Reduce heat, and simmer uncovered for 10 minutes.
  2. Add corn and chorizo. Simmer 10-12 minutes longer or until potatoes and corn are tender.
  3. Meanwhile, in a small skillet, heat oil. Add the garlic, cumin, cilantro, paprika, and pepper. Simply, cook and stir over medium heat for 1 minute.
  4. Stir the shrimp, crab legs, and garlic mixture into the stockpot. Cook for 4-6 minutes or until shrimp and crab turn pink.
  5. After draining, transfer it to your favorite Happy Everything!™ platter.
