Time to break out your pink sweater… October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month! The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) program is dedicated to increasing public knowledge about the importance of early detection of breast cancer.About 207,090 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the United States in 2010, but with early detection through mammography, the chance of survival is tremendous. Since the NBCAM program began in 1985, mammography rates have more than doubled for women age 50 and older and breast cancer deaths have declined.
NBCAM recognizes that although many great strides have been made in breast cancer awareness and treatment, there remains much to be accomplished. They remain dedicated to educating and empowering women to take charge of their own breast health. We hope that you will encourage the women in your life to get mammograms on a regular basis, and if you are age 40 or older, join the millions of women who get mammograms on a regular basis.
Want to show your support? Make these super cute pink pumpkins for a survivor in your life! Not feeling crafty?? In an effort to support the cause, there are many ‘pink’ products available this time of year…Literally from soup to nuts, there are so many companies going pink. Cambell’s Soup, Hershey Kisses, Swiffer, OPI, Kitchenaid and Peanut M&Ms are all pinkalicious this month!
The NFL has also gotten in the game. I guess the saying is true… real men DO wear pink!
Coton Colors offers two pink ribbon ornaments available this month (and all year round too) that can be personalized with a name and date, or with a special event like Race for a Cure.
The white one has three ribbons and the words, believe, hope, pray. The pink one has a single ribbon on the front and can be personalized on the front and back.
I have been thinking about how to incorporate pink into my life this month in a meaningful way… perhaps a new ‘do for Posy?
I’m sure she would love to support this cause, pink is her favorite color after all!!
