Mulled Wine Recipe
Wed, October 30, 2019
Mulled wine is truly one of our favorite fall staples. Not only is it easy and quick to make, but it is the perfect drink to accompany a cozy night by the fireside or to add a festive touch to a more formal fall gathering.
Finding the right mulled wine may be tricky, but this recipe from Food Network is a favorite treat of ours for those cooler autumn nights.
Ingredients (8 servings)
- 4 cups apple cider
- 1 (750-ml) bottle red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon
- 1/4 cup honey
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 orange, zested and juiced
- 4 whole cloves
- 3 star anise
- 4 oranges, peeled, for garnish
Directions
Mix the cider, wine, honey, cinnamon sticks, zest, juice, cloves, and star anise in a large saucepan. Then bring to a boil and simmer over low heat for 10 minutes.
Pour into mugs or antique glasses {our favorite}. Add an orange peel to each and they're ready for your guests.
We incorporated mulled wine and unique glasses into our Spooky Soirée celebration for an enchanting look – not to mention the dark color adds a bewitching touch to the evening.
Our photographer and Laura's middle daughter, Sara Kate, was inspired by a similar gathering she hosted last Halloween. You can read Sara Kate's tips and tricks behind this tablescape in this blog post, Sara Kate On: Spooky Soirée.
