Laura on: Spanish Dinnerware and Serveware
If I were sitting with you right now, I would demand that we pour some Spanish bubbly and cheers to this big news. Our Spanish Collection has arrived! This line is incredibly special to me, and I couldn’t be more excited about its launch. The whole idea behind a Spanish collection stemmed from a trip to Spain with my daughter Kyle and my sister Marcie. The rich culture, stunning architecture and breathtaking Mediterranean waterways are just a few of the million reasons I fell in love with Spain. Oh, and the to-die-for food and wine selection definitely played a substantial role in my love affair.
Spain is also known for its artistic heritage, dating back to prehistoric times, and you see that artistry through every nook and cranny of the coastal country – from the monuments and cathedrals, to the museums and artwork. It’s everywhere, and I couldn’t help but be influenced by it.
We worked hand-in-hand with the local artisans to bring our intricate designs to life. We started by reviewing some of the most traditional spanish painting techniques and patterns and then chose our absolute favorites. We loved each of them for different reasons, so it was quite the challenge to narrow our choices down. From there we chose our color palettes. It was important to us that our Spanish color palettes mixed seamlessly with our other Coton Colors lines. We spent hours sitting with with the artists and we conveyed our ideas and sketches as they painted. It was such a neat experience to see our creations come to life right in front of our eyes as we directed the artists. It was an experience I’ll never forget.
Our Spanish Collection consists of hand-painted and hand thrown pieces, making each piece uniquely its own. Many of the delicate details and artistry are painted on natural clay found in Spain, called talavera. Talavera is the highest quality Spanish ceramic available, and the tradition of production dates back to the 16th century! Because each piece is painted individually with a brush and with extreme attention to detail, every piece is one of a kind which makes them so special.
The Spanish culture is known for long family meals consisting of delectable cuisine and quality time with the ones you care about most. They love nothing more than to gather around the table and enjoy celebrating family and friendships through food and rich conversation. That’s what this line represents to me. It was designed with those things in mind, and my hope is that this collection brings that to you also.
Cheers to these pieces bringing you a uniquely curated look for your own home and many long chats with your family around the dinner table.
