Father’s Day Celebration

Mon, June 11, 2018

Dads hold a special place in our hearts. They are our protectors, our heroes and always there for life’s moments both big and small. We think that may just be a few of the reasons why we love when we get to celebrate these amazing men for a change!

With Father’s Day right around the corner, we wanted to give you a little help with a super-simple BBQ-themed idea to celebrate Dad.

First, instead of a formally set dinner table, line it with kraft paper to add a casual vibe and catch the mess of drippy BBQ sauce – if you can swing an outdoor set…bonus points! Next, add casual clippings from the yard or potted greenery sporadically around the table for décor. Grab a few larger-scale platters (like this one from our Happy Everything!TM Collection with the party-perfect Grill Attachment) to house Dad’s famous BBQ hot off the grill. Add finishing touches like utensils and dinner plates, and you’re all set.

Now, we bet you’re wondering about what to get the man who has everything. How about something he can use on “his” day, and enjoy for long after? Try cooking up Big Milt’s Basic BBQ Sauce recipe - you are quite lucky because this sauce recipe is a fan favorite and highly sought after! A little back story: Big Milt is our Founding Artist and CEO, Laura’s, late father-in-law. He opened up a BBQ restaurant in Tallahassee, FL, and you might say Laura’s husband and his family are quite the connoisseurs. The recipe is quite simple to make and can easily be made giftable by pouring it into a unique glass bottle and topped with a custom BBQ Sauce tag just for your dad.

Happy {Almost} Father’s Day to all the great dads out there! Enjoy!

Big Milt’s Basic BBQ Sauce

Yields 5 Cups

1 (28 ounce)          bottle store bought original recipe BBQ sauce (pick your favorite)

    16 ounces          white vinegar

1          large sweet onion, coarsely sliced

2          stalks celery (leaves included), washed & coarsely chopped

1 tablespoon         Worcestershire sauce

3-4 good shakes   Lousiana-style hot sauce

½ teaspoon           garlic powder

2 tablespoons       vegetable oil

1 teaspoon             salt

½ teaspoon          pepper

                   2           lemons, halved & seeded

Pour the bottle of BBQ sauce into saucepan. Pour vinegar into the empty bottle. Shake to blend with remaining sauce and pour into saucepan.

Add onion, celery, Worcestershire, hot sauce, garlic powder, oil, salt and pepper. Squeeze lemon juice into saucepan and drop lemon halves into pan.

While stirring, bring to a boil. Cover and simmer for 2 hours.

Sauce will keep for up to one month refrigerated.

Note: If you like a sweeter sauce, add 2 tablespoons of brown sugar.
