Derby Days

Thu, May 5, 2011

You remember Linley from my recent post about her son’s Golden Egg party.  Well, she’s back!  I wanted to share her son’s 3rd birthday party from last year since the Kentucky Derby is coming up this weekend. As you’re planning to watch the races this weekend, maybe you’ll find a few ideas here that you can incorporate into your festivities, or at least use to keep the kiddos busy!

Palmer’s 3rd birthday fell on Derby Day last year so it was only fitting to host a Derby Party in his honor. Linley had a local horse rider bring her horse to the party for the children to get their pictures with when they arrived. Horse number 3 with the rose garland… I love those little details!

For snacks, Linley served sandwiches and cheese straws. For dessert there were racehorse cookies, mint julep cupcakes, and rose petit fours - YUM!

The children were entertained with games of pin the tail on the racehorse, stick horse races, and a horse bouncy house.  Needless to say, Linley takes a theme to the extreme!!

Adult entertainment, of course, was the Derby race!  Most grown ups watched the race inside on the big screen.  This year’s Derby favorite is a horse named ‘Dialed In’, followed by ‘Uncle Mo’.  Which horse will you be betting on this weekend??  {I’ve gotta admit…  I do have a favorite horse, I mean, with a name like ‘Pants On Fire’ he’s gotta run fast!!}

Happy Horseracing!
