Cookbook Signings :: Moon over Arkansas

Fri, December 9, 2011

Kristin and I headed to Little Rock, Arkansas for the last round of cookbook signings for 2011. It is bittersweet as I have really enjoyed traveling to these many different cities, seeing the unique style of each store and meeting and getting to know each store owner and staff in a different way rather than just during market. This trip should be the easiest yet as we will land in one hotel for the entire three days and travel short distances.  {A real bonus as Kristin and I don’t always travel lightly!}  I am also looking forward to getting home and staying put so I can get the rest of my Christmas decorations out!

We landed and low and behold what should greet us but SNOW!  Quite a different site especially since I left the humid 80 degree Florida air just a few hours before.

Our first stop….Cherry’s Hallmark. A delightful store owned by Tim, the son of original owner, Virginia Thompson.  Virginia greeted us with three recipes from our cookbook: Chipotle Pecans, Pumpkin Seed Cornbread and Apple Cake with Caramel Icing {which were all delicious}.  It was so great to listen to her conversations with customers as she offered up the selections of food.  She was obviously an experienced cook as she really highlighted the different features of each recipe   Susie would have LOVED to have been here.  Tim graciously made the Vegetarian Chili which hit the spot on this cold day. Early to bed {really!} gave us a lot of rest for Thursday’s second day of signings.  First up…The Crown Shop.

Another delightful store filled with many unique products, lots of customers and a really busy staff.  Owners Mary Jim and John Ramsey greeted us, alongside their son Hall and daughter in law Wendy {and I can’t forget their two adorable, fluffy Wheaton Terriors; Masi and Bell}.  It is a true family business!!

They have built quite a successful store where they have expanded on down the shopping center offering just about every type of gift product imaginable. We were humbled to learn that many of their customers are huge Coton Colors fans and have collected most everything in our line. This customer went home with 2 cookie jars, 2 cookbooks, lots of attachments and a bag full of ornaments - wow!!

Another fun signing I had was to a woman who was hosting Christmas bunco at her house.  I personalized each book with congratulations to…  followed by: most wins, least wins, etc. {Don’t you just love a game where you win even if you lose??} It makes me happy to think about this group of ladies who have been playing bunco together for over 15 years being presented with their winning gifts… our cookbook!!

We had so much fun greeting customers, signing cookbooks and personalizing Razorback ornaments. Rushing next to our second signing at a great boutique… Full Moon, which was set in a great area of Little Rock called The Heights.

A great staff was found here along with a really sweet owner, Linda.  This is a new store for us who we have had a great time working with and getting to know this year.

We enjoyed Linda’s offering of Onion, Thyme & Goat Cheese Tarts, Buttery Pound Cake with Nutella Swirl and Pumpkin Seed Cornbread.   I loved looking around her store and seeing many different types of happy products. I also enjoyed a visit by Jill who was a friend and sister-in-law of one of our cookbook stars {see Vickie on page 206 of the Cinco de Mayo section}.

It was fun swapping stories about Vickie’s children Miles and Sarah Nole and husband Sam who is absolutely the funniest person you’ll ever meet.  {Not sure Vicki agrees but he is!} We also met another very sweet customer with the same name as me….Laura, who was most complimentary and very kind. I really like Little Rock people!!

We were just about done when a customer rushed in {a sweet woman named Cindy Burns} saying, “Did I miss the cookbook….did I miss the cookbook??”   What fun she was and a true delight in her enthusiasm to get her signed cookbook.

As we left Full Moon and traveled on our way to dinner we were greeted with another Full Moon!  Kinda funny, don’t you think? See at our next stop… June’s Hallmark!!
