Cookbook Signings :: Deep In the Heart of Texas

Fri, November 18, 2011

After wrapping up the Nutcracker, it was off to San Antonio! We arrived at Moon Mippy in San Antonio and received a very warm welcome from store manager Lou Ann and her sales staff… Liz, Laura, & Becky.  Moon Mippy San Antonio is a beautiful store, highly organized and the merchandise is beautifully displayed.

Early on, a mother daughter pair who usually attends the Nutcracker show in Houston {but didn’t make it this year} were so excited to happen upon us at Moon Mippy. They stocked up on ornaments and cookbooks and lots of other Happy Everything goodies.  Laura {of Moon Mippy} did a great job on the “perfectly shaped” Sugared Ginger Cookies {& I mean perfect} from page 143 in The Happy Everything Cookbook.

Thank you Moon Mippy San Antonio for sharing your store and customers with us.  Once again, we can not express enough what a wonderful experience it has been for us from Coton Colors to be on the road seeing all the stores and talking with the owners, staff and customers. It makes us so happy that we have had this opportunity to get to know everyone better while gathering ideas and inspiration from folks like Rebecca {a staff member} who had us personalize a wedding ornament for her!

Next off to Moon Mippy in Boerne, Texas where we were blown away by the charming town and the Moon Mippy store that opened just three short months ago in a newly renovated historic bank building that has retail on the ground floor and office up top.

If you are ever in the area, it is truly something to see.  They saved the original wood floors, kept the high ceilings and the stationary room is located in what use to be the old bank vault.  With the huge steel door flung open, it’s an invitation to enter that is hard to resist.  What is the saying????  Why did you rob banks? …because that’s where the $$ is!  I kept waiting for Jesse James to bust in asking for us to sign a cookbook for him!

With their awesome merchandising and over the top holiday decorations, I expect Moon Mippy will have a HAPPY holiday!

Next, we were introduced by Missy to the neighboring store owner who renovated the mixed use building and who, along with her husband, have put a new face on several buildings in the historic town of Boerne.  Check out the cowboy boots… whooooeeeee, yahoooo…..I mean they were the real deal in Texas & don’t just wear them to look cute!!!!

Right down from the store, we were  treated to a wonderful glass of wine at The Boerne Wine Company.  They had the new wine dispensers where you swipe your store account card and then recieve a tasting size, small or large pour of your choice of the 20 or so featured wines.  Really a neat concept {wish I would have thought of it} and one that I bet will become more and more common place.

Next stop - back to Houston for a signing at Alspaughs! Whew, this cookbook tour may be the end of me…
