No Blarney Beer Bread

Thu, February 13, 2014

Traditionally a celebration of Irish heritage, today’s St. Patrick’s Day celebrations typically include parades, good cheer, and perhaps, a pint of Irish beer!

On any given day, 5.5 million pints of Guinness, the famous Irish stout, are consumed around the world. On St. Patrick’s Day, well, let’s just say the world joins in consuming over 13 million pints of the dark, full bodied goodness.

Well friends… Beer isn’t just for drinking anymore! With our delicious recipe for Beer Bread from The Happy Everything Cookbook, this traditional Irish stout adds deep caramel notes to four simple ingredients creating a flavorful loaf that’s fun to gift and delicious to eat.

For a simple, stylish and savory St. Patrick’s Day gift, we suggest our shamrockin’ Beer Bread dry mix. It’s ideal for pinch proof celebrations, party favors and teacher gifts. Just download our Beer Bread label printable here to get started.

  • Brown paper lunch bag or craft bag
  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • ¼ cup sugar
  • Pinch of salt
  • Beer Bread label
  • Ribbon

Mix together dry ingredients and package in the paper lunch bag or craft bag of your choice. Print the Beer Bread printable on cardstock and trim to size. Fold the bag twice or to desired height, then affix the label to the top of the bag folding it in half with the Beer Bread art on the front and the recipe on the back. Use a hole punch to create two holes about two inches apart and approximately ½ inch from the top of the folded bag. Finish by weaving the ribbon through the holes from the front towards the back, then cross-cross and thread the ribbon through the opposite hole toward the front. Cut ribbon diagonally or fish tale to add a final flair.

This thoughtful gift can be easily mixed with a bottle of beer and baked for a tasty treat long after the party ends. To make Irish eyes smile even brighter, give the mix with a six-pack of Guinness stout. We’re certain it’ll make your recipients feel even more lucky!

The beauty of this basic bread is how easily it can become a custom loaf. Just add cheese, herbs, or other fresh ingredients to create tasty variations perfect for celebrations year round.
